NORTH HIGHLINE FIRE DISTRICT

Seattle, Washington

Thanks to a donation from the Beverly Park Community Club, North Highline Fire District recently dedicated a memorial to firefighters throughout the nation who have given their lives in the line of duty.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, members of the local community club felt the importance for citizens to have a permanent location for reflection and remembrance, and they provided the funds for such a memorial.

Local artists, Judith and Daniel Caldwell were commissioned to design, construct and install the memorial at the headquarters station. The bronze statue of a saluting firefighter is approximately three feet tall and is mounted on a four-foot granite base. An intricately patterned bronze bench encircles him, representing both wood (that feeds a fire) and water (that quenches it).
